And The Winner Is…
Ladies and gentlemen, allow us to introduce Mohammed Hussan – the winner of the UK’s first fintech fellowship.
Mohammed is a recent graduate from Durham University with a First-Class honours degree in Electronic Engineering. He plans to use the Fellowship to support his MSc in Computer Science at Imperial College London, commencing this October. At Imperial, he will continue to pursue his interest in the intersection of finance and technology, which he has begun to explore through work experience at innovation labs and traditional financial institutions.
He had been interested in fintech for a while and past experiences have included participating in a blockchain hackathon, volunteering at London Fintech Week and interning at Deutsche Bank’s Innovation Lab.
The need for talent has been highlighted by a recent census of UK fintech firms by EY and Innovate Finance, which identified access to talent, particularly coding and software development, as one of the biggest issues that need to be addressed for continued growth.
The Spotcap Fintech Fellowship addresses this need for graduates by raising awareness and affording talent with the opportunity to pursue studies in a fintech related field.
The fintech sector is one of the UK’s fastest growing, adding more than £6.6 billion into the economy. Its continued success is closely connected to access to talent, in the short- as well as long-term.
The response to the fellowship initiative has been tremendous and we would like to thank all applicants, participating universities and the judging panel for their support.
Spotcap will continue to raise awareness of fintech and the opportunities for both individuals and communities. Applications will open again in April 2018. For more details visit the Spotcap UK Fellowship site. In the meantime, please also support our initiative in the Dutch and Australian markets.
